Starting from Île Barbe, set off to discover the city of Lyon from the water, first along the River Saône and then the River Rhône.

On Île Barbe stands the Notre-Dame Chapel, founded in the 12th century, the last significant remaining building of the abbey that once occupied the island.

Before entering the historic heart of Lyon, with its famous Saint-Jean district and magnificent cathedral, look up to the steep slopes of La Croix-Rousse, home for many years to the Canuts, the renowned silk weavers who played a key role in Lyon’s prosperity during the 19th century.

Further along the route, you will discover the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, which overlooks the city and offers breathtaking panoramic views across Lyon. From the river, you will also admire the Palace of Justice, distinguished by its impressive façade of 24 columns.

The journey then continues into the Confluence district, passing beneath Pont de Perrache, a symbolic boundary between the historic city and its former industrial area. Now undergoing a remarkable transformation, this vibrant neighbourhood is renowned for its bold contemporary architecture.

Finally, you will row upstream on the mighty Rhône, whose stronger current provides a striking contrast to the Saône, as far as Pont de l’Université, just before the Rhône outdoor swimming complex built along the riverbank, where the crews will turn back for the return journey.
